Enoch Arden, a modest fisherman, weds Annie Lee and, to provide for their expanding family, takes a job as a sailor. A violent storm capsizes his vessel; he manages to reach a remote, uninhabited island and must survive alone. Back home, Annie clings to hope, waiting for his return despite growing doubts.
