Werner Herzog’s documentary explores the lives of those who inhabit McMurdo Station, Antarctica, during the austral summer. The film follows scientists, workers, and explorers as they grapple with the stark beauty of the Antarctic landscape and the isolation of living on the edge of the world. Through their stories, Herzog examines human nature and the allure of extreme environments, contrasting the grandeur of the natural world with the unique experiences of a community of over a thousand people.
