Embodiment of Evil

After being released from the prison mental ward, Coffin Joe is greeted at the gate by his loyal servant Bruno and taken to a secluded basement beneath a São Paulo favela. Four fanatics who revere him await orders and pledge their loyalty. He immediately asserts control and begins plotting a renewed campaign of kidnapping to pursue his 'continuation of the blood.'

Coffin Joe tests their motives and loyalty, interrogating each follower before delivering his command. He orders them to start kidnapping women again to fuel his obsession with finding a perfect mate to bear his son. The room tightens with tension as the fanatic group commits to carrying out his brutal plan.

Bruno abducts Dr. Hilda, a controversial eugenicist, from the hideout. Coffin Joe subjects her to drugs to break her will, and she hallucinates a vision of him severing her buttock and presenting it to her, which she consumes willingly. The scene marks the first victim of Joe’s renewed crusade.

Coronel Pontes and Father Eugênio learn about Coffin Joe's release and band together to track him down. They resolve to kill him and vow to end his reign of terror. Their alliance signals a major challenge to Joe's plans.

On his first night, Coffin Joe is haunted by ghostly visions of past victims—Terezinha, Lenita, and Laura from previous films. He tries to dismiss them as figments of his imagination, but the hauntings linger and sharpen his fixation on his own legend. The supernatural visits foreshadow the terror to come.

Coffin Joe singles out Elena, a young gypsy woman who has long been intrigued by him. Elena's aunts, Cabíria and Lucrécia, attempt to shield her with a ritual and curse Coffin Joe, foretelling a clash between old protections and his predatory will. The protective rite sets up a direct confrontation later.

After Joe kills the two aunts, Elena offers herself to him. During their first sexual encounter, he experiences a vision of another dimension—a bloody, maze-like void that leads to Purgatory with a figure called the Mystifier. The vision unsettles him and hints at a larger, cosmic struggle.

In the purgatory sequence, the Mystifier drives Coffin Joe through a barren, intestine-like maze and shows him horrific scenes of depravity and suffering, including a figure representing his own death. The disturbing revelations shake his confidence while fueling his obsession with power and domination. The encounter marks a turning point that intensifies his need to collect more victims.

Encouraged by the visions, Joe orders his followers to kidnap several more women and subject them to sadistic trials to test endurance and submission to his perceived superiority. The captives suffer brutal ordeals as Joe asserts his control and legacy. The group braces for more violence in the name of his 'blood' philosophy.

Police locate the hideout but find it deserted, with only the gruesome remains of Joe's previous victims. Joe escapes through the dark woods as Pontes and Eugênio pursue him, closing the chase but not yet catching him. The escape escalates the chase to the climactic finale.

Joe arrives at the closed Playcenter amusement park and kills the pursuing policemen. Father Eugênio wounds him, impaling Coffin Joe through the heart with a large crucifix. Despite the appearance of death, the shadows and Coffin Joe’s voice promise that his plans will survive.

Elena appears at the scene, pulls the crucifix from Coffin Joe, and has sex with him, signaling a perverse continuation of his influence. The moment suggests the cycle of domination and desire will persist even as he is seemingly defeated. The encounter reshapes Joe's fate and moral universe.

At Coffin Joe's funeral, it is revealed that his goal has been achieved: the surviving women, including Hilda and Elena, are pregnant with his child. They gather at the funeral, a grim testament to his enduring influence beyond death. The final image confirms his deadly legacy lives on.
