Elektra (2005) Timeline Explained – Every Event in Order

Elektra chooses to spare them because spending time with Mark and Abby awakens her capacity for compassion, which she had lost after being expelled from Stick's training. When she discovers her targets are the same people she has formed an emotional connection with, a grieving father and a young girl who shares her struggle with OCD, she cannot go through with the assassination. This decision marks her shift from being a cold contract killer to someone who protects the innocent.

Kimagure is an ancient martial arts technique taught by Stick that grants practitioners two key abilities: foresight (seeing the future) and the power to resurrect the dead. Elektra learns this technique after being brought back to life by Stick following her death in Daredevil. These abilities prove crucial in the final battle, where she uses foresight to anticipate attacks and later resurrects Abby after she is poisoned.

Elektra resurrects Abby using the Kimagure technique she learned from Stick. After Typhoid poisons Abby with the same 'Kiss of Death' attack that nearly killed Elektra, Elektra channels her newly mastered abilities to bring the girl back from death. This moment represents Elektra overcoming her deep-seated anger and fully embracing the compassionate side that Stick had been trying to cultivate throughout the film.

Stick arranges for the murder contract targeting Mark and Abby as a test to evaluate Elektra's capacity for compassion. He explains that the contract was part of a larger test to see if she had truly abandoned her ruthless assassin lifestyle. By giving her targets she would genuinely care about, Stick wanted to determine whether she could choose compassion over completion of her mission, the key indicator of whether she had overcome her anger and was ready to embrace her destiny.

Elektra defeats Kirigi through a combination of factors: her Kimagure powers allow her to anticipate his attacks, and Abby's unexpected arrival distracts him long enough for Elektra to recover. After their initial confrontation where Kirigi overpowers her, Elektra retreats to her childhood home where she recalls Kirigi as the man who killed her mother. This personal stakes fuel her determination, and with Abby's help in the hedge maze, she gains the upper hand and kills Kirigi.

Elektra's mother was killed by The Hand during their pursuit of Abby, who they recognized as the Treasure with extraordinary powers. Stick reveals that Elektra was already part of this larger conflict from childhood, and her mother's death was directly related to the battle between The Hand and the Chaste over the Treasure. Kirigi himself was the one who murdered Elektra's mother, which becomes personal motivation in their final confrontation.

Elektra leaves because her journey requires her to continue as a protector of the innocent, a role she has accepted but cannot fulfill by staying in one place. While she has found genuine connection with Mark and Abby, representing a potential new family, she recognizes that her skills and purpose lie in fighting the evil forces that threaten people like them. The ending is bittersweet: she achieves redemption through saving them but must return to her solitary path.

Elektra survives Typhoid's lethal 'Kiss of Death' attack because of her Kimagure abilities. The technique grants foresight, allowing her to anticipate and partially dodge the poisoned attack. Additionally, Stick and the Chaste ninjas arrive immediately after to extract her from danger, providing medical intervention. This survival also foreshadows her later ability to resurrect Abby, once having faced death herself, she has the experience to bring someone back from it.

The Hand wants Abby because she is the legendary Treasure, a motherless daughter with unique powers that could tip the balance between good and evil. Master Roshi initially wants to capture her to use her abilities for their criminal empire, but his son Kirigi argues that if she cannot be captured, she must be eliminated so the Chaste cannot use her powers against them. This explains why they hire multiple assassins and pursue her relentlessly throughout the film.

Elektra is expelled from Stick's training because she cannot control her deep-seated anger. Despite showing potential in learning Kimagure, her rage over her mother's death and her traumatic past prevents her from mastering the discipline required. Stick recognizes that her anger makes her dangerous and potentially susceptible to corruption by evil forces, so he expels her in hopes she would find another path to peace.
