Herbert, a solitary projectionist in a rundown Viennese cinema, lives in the caretaker’s flat with his nameless red cat. He splits his time between his mother’s nursing home, an old family friend and a savings‑club where he hoards money to fund his dream of emigrating to the U.S., buying a theater and reuniting with his estranged father. When Rita, a young student, moves into the building, his routine and ambitions are upended.
