Double Dragon

A massive earthquake devastates southern California, leaving Los Angeles renamed as New Angeles in ruins. The disaster shatters infrastructure and public services, and the federal government fails to restore order or start rebuilding. The city becomes a lawless landscape that will frame the story to come.

Seven years pass and New Angeles is a partially flooded, unstable city plagued by aftershocks. The air is choked with smog and acid rain, amplifying the sense of decay. Gangs fill the streets, and the police are compromised by a pact that keeps them at bay during the day but does little to curb violence at night.

Koga Shuko explains the nature of the Double Dragon medallions and that the power resides in two halves. He already possesses one half and orders his henchmen to locate the other half.

Billy, Jimmy, and their guardian Satori Imada head home after a martial arts tournament, returning during the city curfew. They are ambushed by street gangs who rule the nights due to a police deal. The Power Corps, led by Marian Delario, helps them escape.

At their abandoned theater home, Satori explains the Double Dragon and why the pieces must be protected. She explains how the medallion's power works and what defending the pieces entails. She places the Dragon half in Billy's care.

Shuko arrives with his henchmen and demonstrates the medallion's soul power by briefly possessing Satori. Billy and Jimmy incapacitate Bo Abobo, but Shuko drenches the theater in gasoline and sets it on fire. Satori sacrifices herself so the brothers can escape with the Dragon.

Having united the gangs under his power, Shuko begins hunting the Lees. Billy and Jimmy flee and seek refuge at the Power Corps hideout, where Marian agrees to help them take action against the gangs.

The trio heads to Shuko's office building to steal the medallion, but their plan fails and Jimmy is captured. They are forced to retreat as Shuko's forces close in around them.

Back at the Power Corps base, Marian points out a crucial discovery: the wearer of one half is immune to the other half's powers. This means Shuko cannot possess Billy while he bears his Dragon piece. The group gains renewed hope.

During a coordinated attack on the hideout, Jimmy reappears but is controlled by Shuko. Billy activates his medallion's power, granting invulnerability. Shuko uses Jimmy to distract Billy and gain the upper hand.

Shuko unites the two halves and transforms into shadow warriors with deadly blades. The brothers struggle, but Marian reactivates the hideout's lights, weakening the shadows. Billy and Jimmy force the halves back to their original form and reclaim the Dragon, gaining full powers.

In the climactic fight, Billy and Jimmy confront Shuko with their merged powers. Jimmy temporarily possesses Shuko to coerce him into humiliating acts, buying time for their victory. Marian's father arrives with the police to arrest Shuko.

Shuko is jailed, and order begins to return as the police regain authority. The Dragon halves are secured and kept safe by the brothers with the Power Corps' help. New Angeles slowly moves toward a fragile peace.
