Den Brother

Alex Pearson is a talented but self-centered high school hockey player who chases the attention of Matisse Burrows. His showboating results in a suspension from the team. His widowed father, Jasper, refuses to foot the bill and reminds him that his attitude must improve.

To prove he can be responsible, Alex takes on chores around the house and babysits his little sister Emily. This new duty tests his patience and reshapes how he views family obligations. He begins balancing hockey ambitions with home life.

Emily’s Bumble Bee troop loses its leader, and Alex volunteers to serve as substitute Den Mother, adopting the alias Mrs. Zamboni. He hides his involvement to avoid tipping off parents and the council while learning the ropes. The role introduces him to a new community and responsibilities.

The troop must reach Camporee by selling cookies and earning badges. Alex’s willingness to help earns him a chance to connect with the girls and grow his own character. This effort begins to shift his priorities beyond self-interest.

The big test comes during a muffin sale at a major hockey game where Alex’s disguise nearly backfires. The coach notices his absence just as his suspension was due to end. He must juggle his Den Mother persona with his hockey commitments.

Because of the stunt, the Bumble Bee troop is disqualified, and Alex's best friend grows distant. His sister Emily and father feel let down by his reckless choices. The consequences ripple through his personal and team life.

Alex visits neighbor Allie Jacklitz, who used to lead a Bumble Bee troop, and learns that his late mother had been part of her group. He makes a deal to pitch in around the house if Allie agrees to become the new Den Mother. The revelation deepens his motivation to change.

With Allie guiding the troop, forgiveness returns and Alex earns a chance to finish the hockey season. He apologizes to his teammates and offers the captaincy to Goose, who declines in favor of seeing Alex lead. Trust within the team begins to rebuild.

In the next game, Alex intentionally backs off the puck to create space for Goose to score the winning point. Goose earns an All-Star opportunity as a result, signaling a shift in leadership and teamwork.

The Bumble Bees arrive at the arena with Alex’s father, and Matisse forgives him, hinting that she’d like him to remain as their Den Mother. The reconciliation marks a pivotal moment in his acceptance of community responsibilities.

At Camporee, Alex formally steps into the Den Mother role, facing Dina’s challenge to quit and choosing to persevere. He dons the Bumble Bee uniform to show his commitment, and Dina’s husband—who was the original suspender—offers him a spot on the All-Stars, which he accepts only if the troop’s schedule can be accommodated.
