As the government slumbers, the revolutionary brain trust finalizes a coup at the Military Academy, mere hours before the uprising that has been six years in the making. With no detailed blueprint, a spontaneous night raid is organized using only cadets, since senior army leadership remains pro‑government. Major General Cemal Madanoğlu, commander of the Revolution Headquarters, holds the decisive authority on May 27.
