Death Note: Light Up the NEW World

Ten years after the deaths of Light Yagami and L, the world is scarred by cyber-terrorism and a chilling reemergence of Death Notes. Interpol forms the Death Note Task Force led by Ryuzaki to pursue the new threat. The team begins coordinating across borders to track down any notes and potential copycats.

A string of killings in Shibuya leads investigators to a notebook owned by Sakura Aoi, who is slain. Beppo, the Shinigami guardian, appears and reveals a startling bottleneck: only six Death Notes can exist in the human world at once. The revelation sets the stage for a race to locate the remaining notes before they spread further.

The Task Force learns the six-note limit means the spread of Death Notes must be contained and controlled. They vow to find the other five notes and stop the cascade of violence before more innocents are drawn into Kira's orbit. This constraint turns a global hunt into a surgical operation.

Cyber-terrorist Yuki Shien declares his mission to collect all six Death Notes, acting on a promise from Light via Ryuk. He unleashes a virus that frames Light as Kira and begins dialing up global panic while contacting Misa Amane for aid. He uses hacking skills to track down three more Notes and eliminates their owners to remove obstacles.

Mishima discovers a hidden message in Ryuzaki's video, 'I own the last Death Note', and confronts Ryuzaki about his relationship with Arma. Ryuzaki reveals that his own Death Note is blank, having sworn never to use one. Mishima agrees to access the Task Force's Death Note and assist in confronting the new Kira.

The investigation reveals Mishima was tasked with locating Light's son and his secret successor, who are now believed to be in Mikami's care. Ryuzaki frees Mishima to help the Task Force and keep the inquiry intact. The team begins coordinating to ensure Mishima's access doesn't compromise the case.

Mishima and Ryuzaki devise a plan to lure Shien into the open, culminating in a meeting at the National Arts Centre. Mishima stays behind to guide the rest of the team while Shien prepares to reveal his face and the Death Notes in possession. The setup intensifies the stakes as loyalties and identities hang in the balance.

As the plan unfolds, the team is forced to reveal their faces when a jamming signal cuts the line. Misa Amane's new Shinigami Eyes reveal real names and lifespans, and she writes Light's name and kills herself. Three Task Force members fall in the ensuing chaos.

Shien escalates his bid to become Neo Kira, sacrificing half his lifespan to gain Shinigami Eyes and remove the impostor. When Mishima touches Shien's Death Note, memories flood back, including Mikami's murder of Hikari Yagami. Mishima then kills Mikami and assumes the mantle of Neo Kira, later handing the Death Note to Ryuzaki to advance their plan.

Mishima and Ryuzaki confront Shien; a tense standoff erupts and the trio are shot. Arma sacrifices herself to prevent Mishima's capture, allowing them to escape through an abandoned subway even as police close in.

Interpol halts Mishima's execution order, and Mishima is taken into custody while Ryuzaki explains the fate of the six Death Notes. The dying Shinigami King had promised his throne to the Shinigami who found the next Kira, but with all six notes accounted for, the future of the Death Note world remains uncertain.

A postscript reveals terrorists attack the notebook-bearing vehicle, destroying four notes and leaving two missing. With the date marking Ryuzaki's own death, he proposes a swap of fates with Mishima, who reveals his real name, Ryo Nakagami, and walks away to face whatever comes next. The scene closes on a note that suggests the cycle of greed and power will continue.
