Read the complete plot breakdown of De Dana Dan (2009), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Nitin Bankar is a diligent servant and driver for Kuljeet Kaur, a powerful businesswoman who owns malls, restaurants, and other real estate in Singapore. Nitin tolerates a lot, but his life grows complicated due to Kuljeet’s troublesome dog, Moolchand Ji, whose mischief keeps dragging him into trouble. His close friend Ram Mishra [Suniel Shetty] has carved out a different path, working for a courier service after moving to Singapore with the dream of appearing in Chinese films, a dream that colors his choices and loyalties.

Meanwhile, at the heart of these personal entanglements, Anjali Kakkad [Katrina Kaif] harbors strong feelings for Nitin, while Manpreet Oberoi [Sameera Reddy] is deeply in love with Ram. Both women come from wealthy backgrounds and are accustomed to a life of comfort, which makes the shifting loyalties and misunderstandings around them all the more dramatic and consequential.

The plot thickens when Inspector Wilson Pereira [Sharat Saxena] begins to scrutinize Harbans Chadda [Paresh Rawal] for cheque kiting, a scheme the older man is trying to juggle with a rapidly mounting debt. Harbans dreams of marrying off his son, Nonni H. Chaddha [Chunky Pandey], in order to secure a dowry that could help him stay afloat financially. He even presses ahead with a plan to wed Nonni to Anjali after Himanshu, Anjali’s disapproving father who dislikes Nitin, raises the subject.

At a restaurant, a missed meeting with Anjali by Harbans opens the door to more complications. Himanshu crosses paths with Pammi Chadda [Aditi Gowitrikar], Harbans’ younger second wife, while Anjali confesses to Nonni that she is pregnant by her lover, a revelation meant to derail the engagement because she loves Nitin.

The action shifts to a casino, where Harbans is introduced to Brij Mohan Oberoi, and the Indian ambassador Paramjeet Singh Lamba [Vikram Gokhale] becomes a focal point of attention and wealth. Spurred by this wealth, Harbans arranges Nonni’s marriage to Manpreet, while Himanshu urges Anjali toward a different match. Moosa Heerapoorwala decides to pursue Anu Chopra [Neha Dhupia], a dancer at the casino, and the tangled web intensifies when Moosa’s brother-in-law arranges the impossible, hiring a ruthless killer known as Kaala Krishna Murari [Johnny Lever] to eliminate Moosa. To keep his plans under wraps, Moosa books a hotel room under the name Subair, a detail that will later spiral out of control.

Nitin and Ram hatch a plan to kidnap Moolchand and demand a ransom, but the dog proves elusive, slipping away and returning home, a twist that misleads the public and the police into thinking Nitin himself has been kidnapped. In a parallel thread, Anjali runs away from home and heads straight for the room she shares with Nitin, forcing Kuljeet to reconsider her stance on paying the ransom when public boycotts threaten her business interests.

With the ransom in play, the plan muddies as Harbans contemplates a dead-body deception: stealing a corpse from Maamu [Govardhan Asrani] and placing it on the railway tracks along with Nitin’s driving license to fake Nitin’s demise. On another front, the families gather at the hotel for the impending wedding, and the chaotic machine of divided loyalties hums louder than ever.

As night falls, Harbans’ world collides with Oberoi’s, and a dangerous misdirection cascades through the hallways and rooms. Kaala’s presence looms large, and a mistaken identity game intensifies when Wilson arrives with Lamba’s assistance to search Harbans’ room. A bomb tucked into a suitcase, a window that crashes, and a fall that ties Kaala, Oberoi, and Nitin into a deadly sequence of events push everyone toward a cliff’s edge.

The momentum of confusion pulls Kaala, Oberoi, Lamba, Wilson, the police, Moosa, Kuljeet, and many others into a frantic chase through the hotel corridors. Amid the chaos, Maamu arrives with a body that nobody wants, while Oberoi pieces together Harbans’ lies and the truth behind the escalating frauds. The pursuit intensifies until it reaches the rooftop, where a cascade of serendipity and danger collide: Kaala’s bomb erupts, water from the tank floods the entire hotel, and the money—the object everyone seems to be chasing—remains elusive at first.

In the final moments, the hotel erupts into a swirl of desperation and realization. The would-be kidnap victims and their pursuers are left grappling with what they truly want, and a glimmer of luck appears as Nitin spots the rightful suitcase of money and signals to Ram, Anjali, and Manpreet to regroup. The story closes not with a clean resolution, but with a moment of tentative clarity: the criminals’ schemes are unmasked, loyalties are reassessed, and the path forward is sharpened by the shared goal of surviving the consequences of a day spent chasing shadows.

Note: This summary preserves the core relationships, key twists, and the ensemble chaos that drives the film, while expanding the emotional and logistical backdrop to give readers a fuller, more cohesive sense of the story and its colorful cast.
