In 1983, Vusi helps organize a radical student protest that is quickly crushed by the police. The crackdown forces him to flee South Africa and seek asylum in the United States. He settles in the San Francisco Bay Area, beginning a long exile from his homeland.

During his years away, Vusi builds a new life in the San Francisco Bay Area, adapting to a different culture while staying connected to his roots. He remains haunted by his family and the political struggles he left behind, awaiting a chance to return.

Fourteen years after leaving, Vusi returns to South Africa to attend his father's funeral in the village he grew up in. The trip forces him to confront unresolved family tensions and the changes that have occurred in his absence.

At the funeral, Vusi struggles to participate in the traditional cow slaughter ritual. The moment underscores the rift between his modern life abroad and his homeland's customs, triggering friction with his brother Ernest.

Vusi checks Steven's two addresses in Johannesburg, then is ambushed outside Soweto by three armed criminals who steal his car and his family heirloom spear. The incident leaves him shaken and more determined to uncover Steven's fate.

Karen reveals that Steven had borrowed cocaine on credit from a drug lord named Muki. The revelation connects Steven's troubles to a larger criminal web and motivates Vusi to pursue the truth.

At a hard-rock club, Vusi learns about Karen's crack cocaine addiction after she takes a hit. The admission compounds the tension between them as they chase clues to Steven's fate.

Outside the club, two white supremacist punks confront Vusi and Karen. A struggle ensues, but Vusi gains the upper hand, and Karen hands him a gun to defend themselves.

Vusi forces Sam, Karen's drug dealer, to reveal Muki's whereabouts. Sam returns the money and drugs that Karen had demanded, clearing a path to confront Muki.

Muki tells Vusi that Steven's debt now stands at 45,000 rand. He offers a deal: 15,000 USD must be delivered within two days if Steven's life—and his own—are to be spared.

Karen explains that Steven has headed for Sun City to gamble and salvage his debt. The duo traverses an Afrikaner rally as they reach the casino, where Steven attempts to earn back money through risky bets and the lure of drugs.

Back at the hotel, Steven confronts Muki about the debt while Vusi and Karen watch. When the moment escalates, Muki shoots Steven with Vusi's gun, fueling the vengeance that will follow.

Steven's body is brought home for burial in the village. Vusi recruits his brother Ernest to help craft a plan for revenge, and they retrieve weapons from a buried cache.

Vusi, Ernest, and their team plant a bomb in Sam's apartment, killing Sam and two guards. They move through the building, with Karen providing cover fire, and Vusi corners Muki. He kills Muki with his father's spear as police arrive.

In the aftermath, Vusi convinces his fiancée to relocate to his village in South Africa. Karen considers entering rehabilitation, and Vusi invites her to join them for a fresh start.
