During a party celebrating Bình Lợi's promotion, Quắn feels insulted by Mrs. Hai Giàu's words and leaves the gathering. Soon Út Quý appears drunk and starts a fight, and in the chaos he smashes a beer bottle on Sang's head, injuring him. The incident sets a tense mood for the family and foreshadows deeper conflicts to come.

Next day, Sang and Bù Tọt go to Tư Phú's house for a drink, where Aunt Ánh questions Sang's care for Bu Tot. Mrs. Cẩm Lệ nearby grows angry at the friction in the family. Mrs. Giàu reminds Sang to repay the borrowed money and even suggests selling the house, while Bù Tọt tells Quắn; Quắn arrives with money to settle the debt.
