Deep in the Finnish forest, the shuttered foundry of Karkkila is reborn as the first cinema, Kino Laika, thanks to director Aki Kaurismäki, who serves as both builder and site manager. The village’s quiet is broken by construction din, and the project swiftly becomes the talk of the community—from the still‑operating factory floor and a 1960s Cadillac to the local biker club, pub, woods and even Kaurismäki’s former editing room—sparking renewed conversations about film.
