In Visakhapatnam, Venu works as a receptionist at a small lodge that he and his friend Gopi run. The lodge, owned by his father, has been leased out because of financial troubles, creating a fragile rhythm to life around the place. Next door lives Radha, the daughter of the lodge’s new manager, Krishnamurthy, who stays with her mother and family. Radha is drawn to Venu’s good nature, and as their paths cross, he begins to share a part of his past with her, inviting her into a story he has carried with him.
A few years earlier, Nirmala lived in the same house where Radha now resides, and Venu’s care for her family deepens into affection. Venu helps Nirmala financially, and the two fall in love, with Nirmala’s parents deciding that marriage to Venu would be ideal. Ramji, Venu’s friend who had stayed with them in those early days, eventually lands a good job and begins to earn well. He also grows attracted to Nirmala and tries to win her over. Because Ramji seems to offer a more secure future, her parents push for that match, convincing Nirmala to marry him.
Venu’s heart sinks when he discovers Ramji’s real intentions. He eventually informs Nirmala, but she misunderstands this as an attempt to sabotage her relationship with Ramji. Mistaken beliefs lead to strain, and Nirmala, along with her family, moves into a bigger house provided by Ramji. The complexity of loyalties, pride, and poverty threads through the lives of everyone involved, and the past begins to cast a longer shadow over the present.
Back in the present, Radha becomes more taken with the story Venu shared. He learns that Ramji’s betrayal left Nirmala and her family to face hardship and poverty. Moved by their suffering, Venu steps in again to help, this time with a plan to secure Nirmala’s education. He assists with preparing her for the MBBS entrance examination and, to fund her education, he sells the lodge to the lessee, allowing Nirmala to pursue a medical degree at a private college despite the steep fees.
Five years pass, and Nirmala completes her medical degree and begins a new chapter with a job. Throughout this time, Venu provides unwavering financial and moral support, quietly shaping the path that allowed Nirmala to reach her goal. Meanwhile, Radha remains unmarried, quietly harboring love for Venu and waiting for an honest chance to express it. Nirmala is said to consider marrying Venu, but he clarifies that his help stemmed from past affection, not ongoing romance. He acknowledges Radha’s more genuine devotion, noting how she has turned away other proposals for years in the hope of being with him. Radha overhears this revelation and feels a surge of happiness, understanding where Venu’s heart truly lies. The story closes with the two of them—Venu and Radha—coming together to begin a life built on trust, sacrifice, and enduring affection.
