Checkered Ninja

Danish businessman Phillip Eppermint arrives in Thailand to inspect his new factory. A boy named Quang accidentally uses Eppermint’s scarf to create a checkered ninja plush doll, and Eppermint brutally beats him to death. A lightning strike coincides with the murder, and the doll is possessed by the spirit of a deceased ninja.

The Checkered Ninja ends up on a Danish cargo ship and is picked up by Stewart Stardust. He gives the doll to his nephew Alex Stenstrom as a birthday present, bringing the dangerous toy into Denmark.

At school, the ninja defends Odysseus from a bully named Glenn using Alex’s voice. The crowd witnesses the bizarre act as the doll demonstrates sentience through the boy's voice, hinting at its supernatural control.

Glenn chases Alex through Albertslund after school. The doll quickly shreds the bully, and the two form an odd alliance with the doll acting as a protector. Alex and the ninja begin to work together.

The ninja agrees to help Alex get revenge on Eppermint, but only if Alex unwittingly aids with a ruse involving Eppermint’s lost credit card. This arrangement deepens their partnership and ties Eppermint's fate to Alex’s actions.

Alex learns that Eppermint shares the same last name as his crush Jessica, and his mother reveals that Jessica’s dad is also named Phillip. The ninja ensures Alex is invited to Jessica’s upcoming party, extending the plan toward the social arena.

On the same day, the ninja, using Alex’s voice, confesses his love for Jessica to the whole school via the intercom. The stunt shocks the students and raises tensions around Jessica and Alex.

Alex and the ninja plan a fight with Glenn on the day of Jessica’s party, choosing the playground and laying traps to ensure Alex’s victory. The plan showcases their growing camaraderie and willingness to use clever tricks.

That night, the ninja recounts Taiko Nakamura’s clan history: protecting the children, betrayal, mass killings, and seppuku. His soul becomes a wandering spirit dedicated to safeguarding children. This backstory explains his motives and the doll’s purpose.

At Jessica’s party, the ninja confronts Eppermint’s father and retrieves Eppermint’s address. Alex refuses to leave for the house, but the ninja’s insult to Jessica via Alex’s voice ridicules him and leads Jessica to kiss Odysseus, further complicating matters.

The duo arrives at Eppermint’s house; the ninja attempts to kill Eppermint but fails. Alex learns the ninja is Taiko Nakamura, triggering a crisis as Nakamura tries to murder Sean when Alex’s earlier wish comes back to haunt him, landing Alex in an asylum.

From the asylum, Alex and Nakamura strike a deal to bring Eppermint down without killing him. They visit Stewart, who provides a drug dealer’s number and a kilogram of cocaine to stage a frame against Eppermint.

Alex injects the cocaine into Nakamura’s body to frame Eppermint for drug possession, then follows Eppermint to the airport. Eppermint arrives in Thailand, where Nakamura leaps onto him; police later find Eppermint with the cocaine-stuffed doll and arrest him as Nakamura’s spirit departs.

Back in Denmark, Alex discovers that Nakamura sent Jessica a voicemail apologizing, and the two begin a romantic relationship. That night, inspired by Nakamura, Alex watches news about street criminals and resolves to become a vigilante protecting Albertslund.
