Chained

A taxi ride home after a cinema turns horrific when Bob abducts Sarah Fittler and her nine-year-old son. He drives them to his house and manipulates the situation to gain control. Bob murders Sarah and imprisons the boy, who will later be known as Rabbit.

Inside Bob's house, Bob murders Sarah and imprisons Tim, starting his long captivity. The act reveals the killer's capacity for violence and explains Tim's fearful, controlled behavior. Tim is renamed Rabbit during his captivity.

Nine years pass as Tim remains Bob's captive. He does housework, buries the bodies of Bob's victims, and keeps a scrapbook of clippings that document the killings. The brutal routine cements Bob's control and shapes Tim's psyche.

Bob tries to adopt a fatherly role, forcing Tim into a semblance of family life while grooming him to imitate his killer habits. He exposes Tim to anatomy work and teaches him to study the body, blurring lines between care and cruelty. Tim's confinement deepens as he learns to mimic his captor.

Bob reveals that Tim's father Brad has remarried, using the information to destabilize Tim's sense of family. The revelation intensifies Tim's isolation inside the house and reinforces Bob's control. The fragile emotional ties Tim has are further eroded.

To complete Tim's transformation, Bob orders him to select a victim from a yearbook. Tim initially resists, but Bob insists and he names a girl named Angie. Bob abducts Angie to begin a new cycle of violence.

Bob abducts Angie and confines her in a room with Tim, pressuring him to participate. Tim hesitates but begins to bond with Angie, signaling a shift in his complicity. Bob remains in control, driving the looming danger.

Tim stabs Angie in the stomach during a tense moment, hoping to resist Bob's demands. Bob drags Angie's body into the room with the other victims, maintaining the killer's routine. He orders Tim to help hunt for another girl.

While planning another hunt, Bob notices the word 'help' Tim wrote on the side of the taxi, realizing Tim has harmed Angie non-lethally. He knocks Tim unconscious and heads to Angie's hiding place to kill him. Angie fights back by cutting Bob's Achilles tendon.

In the ensuing struggle, Tim awakens and comes to Angie's aid. He defeats Bob and kills him, burying him beside the other victims. Angie survives the confrontation, and Tim's acts end Bob's reign of terror in the house.

Tim tracks down Brad, who now lives with his new wife Marie and Tim's half-brother Colin. Tim unveils that Bob is Brad's brother and Tim's paternal uncle, and that Brad had orchestrated the abduction. Brad assaults Tim, and Marie intervenes before Tim delivers the fatal blow to Brad.

Tim returns to Bob's house and shuts the garage door, continuing the sounds of him moving through the space where the events began. The closing credits replay the routine sounds of his movements through the house and garage, leaving the fate of the house and its survivor open-ended.
