Ethan Kopek, portrayed by Taron Egerton, serves as a TSA officer at the busy Los Angeles International Airport, but his aspirations reach far beyond the airport’s security lines; he dreams of becoming a policeman. His supportive pregnant girlfriend, Sofia Carson, who works as the operations director of Northwind Airlines, encourages him to pursue his ambitions. With determination, Ethan approaches his boss, Dean Norris, requesting a promotion. To assess his capabilities, he is assigned to operate the X-ray machine as part of a trial phase. However, things take a dark turn when he encounters an apparently lost earbud, which connects him to a menacing figure known as The Traveler.

Through this earbud, The Traveler exerts chilling control over Ethan, coercing him to allow a particular passenger, Mateo, to pass through security, under the threat that Nora’s life hangs in the balance. As Ethan grapples with the moral dilemmas of his situation, he first seeks help from the authorities but quickly realizes that the stakes are higher than he imagined. In a desperate measure to alert his coworker, Curtiss Cook, Ethan uses invisible ink to communicate his warnings. Unfortunately, The Traveler ensures Ethan’s cry for help is in vain by inducing a heart attack that claims Lionel’s life, leaving Ethan submerged in guilt and grief.

With Ethan’s struggle intensifying, his co-worker Sinqua Walls unwittingly takes the fall for him. As The Traveler tightens his grip, Ethan makes a reckless decision that results in Jason’s dismissal from the TSA, ultimately leading him down a precarious path where he must allow Mateo and The Traveler’s carry-on to pass through. A heavy burden of guilt follows him, especially as he learns of The Traveler’s sinister plans to unleash the Novichok nerve agent on a Northwind flight.

Meanwhile, the relentless LAPD detective, Danielle Deadwyler, pursues an investigation into an arson case. Her efforts come to encompass a wiretap that reveals ominous discussions about the deployment of Novichok. As she digs deeper, she becomes aware of Ethan’s attempts to reach out to the police and takes precautions to secure the TSA line to engage Ethan directly. In a nail-biting twist, Ethan exploits his supervisor’s login to flag Mateo for a random search, attempting to make sense of the overwhelming chaos while simultaneously trying to protect Nora.

In a sequence of escalating tension, The Watcher, another key player entangled in this treacherous game, threatens Nora’s life with a sniper rifle. A gripping confrontation takes place between Ethan and The Traveler in a bathroom, where Ethan momentarily gains the upper hand. However, the danger intensifies as The Traveler instigates the arming of the Novichok to be released into the airport in mere minutes. Events spiral further as Ethan finds himself in a desperate situation, armed with the knowledge that Mateo, portrayed by Tonatiuh, also faces a grave threat. As they attempt to navigate the fatal traps laid by The Traveler, Mateo reveals that his husband, Jesse, is being held captive, intertwining their fates in a deadly game. As they dispose of a body to hide evidence, The Traveler’s sinister commands continue to echo—demanding Mateo to end Ethan’s life. A chaotic struggle ensues, culminating in an explosive accident that takes Mateo’s life.

In the wake of this tumultuous confrontation, Ethan rushes to contact his colleague, Gil Perez-Abraham, pleading for an immediate warning about the planned threat. Meanwhile, Elena deduces that her companion is not who he claims to be, culminating in a car chase and a shocking confrontation. Ethan seeks to wrest control of the situation, dexterously switching the Novichok-laden suitcase to ensure its safe disposal.

As the clock ticks, Ethan discovers chilling revelations about the true target of The Traveler—the Congresswoman, who is secretly on a flight that could shift the political landscape dramatically. With the masterminds behind this plot looking to blame Russia for an attack, Ethan takes it upon himself to thwart the impending disaster. With a time-sensitive mission on his hands, he bravely heads into the cargo hold of the airplane.

Determined to protect the innocents aboard, Ethan confronts The Traveler amid the clamor of the airport’s bustle. In a tense climax, Ethan manages to lock The Traveler in an airtight freezer, eliminating the immediate threat once and for all.

Fast forward a year, and we find Ethan, Nora, and their child in a reflective moment as they navigate through airport security, ready to embark on a vacation filled with newfound hope. The weight of his past scars diminishes as he lets his LAPD badge slide through the airport tray, signifying a fresh start forged through trials, courage, and resilience.
