A love story so unusual it must be true. Painter Dora Carrington develops an intimate, complex bond with writer Lytton Strachey. Though Lytton is gay, he is deeply enchanted by the mysterious Dora, and their lifelong friendship carries romantic undertones. They eventually decide to live together, despite Dora falling for military man Ralph Partridge, whom she intends to marry.
