After years of alien control, it is revealed that William Mulligan, a police official who appeared to be simply enforcing the alien regime, is actually a rebel operative working against the aliens. His goal was to infiltrate their base in Chicago to gather intelligence and sabotage their plans. His undercover mission reaches its climax when he helps uncover a critical leak to a rebel sympathizer and finally gains entry to the alien’s hidden stronghold—located in a massive hole in the middle of the city. During his dangerous infiltration, William’s actions lead to his apparent death, as a bright light engulfs the screen, symbolizing his sacrifice or possible demise.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Drummond, who at first seemed like a reluctant supporter of the alien overlords, ends up discovering a powerful piece of evidence: a footage archive showing his own parents at a pre-invasion celebration, with key rebel figures including William and Jane Doe.
