Bye Bye Brazil

The caravan—Lorde Cigano, Salomé, and the mute strongman Andorinha—begins traveling along the São Francisco river, performing in small towns with their van. They move from town to town, testing their act and earning what they can from each stop. The road life defines their uneasy, traveling rhythm.

A local accordion player Ciço begs to join the troupe and is accepted, bringing his pregnant wife Dasdô along. The group gains two new members and the dynamic within the caravan shifts. Their inclusion foreshadows growing tensions and new dependencies.

They travel to Maceió hoping for ocean scenery and new gigs, but find no steady work to sustain the caravan. The dream of better opportunities starts to fade as financial strains mount. The group keeps moving, chasing the next chance.

In the next town, people gather to watch television in public spaces. Cigano tries to disrupt the spectacle with a magic act, but Salomé overloads a circuit breaker instead. The crowd forces the caravan to leave, marking a humiliating setback.

At a roadside gas station, Andorinha loses arm-wrestling bets to a truck driver. The driver tells him he comes from Altamira, a place described as a new El Dorado where money flows. The hint of El Dorado fuels the group's drive toward the interior.

A traveling performer screens a film in a drought-stricken town where people pay with food and goods to watch. Ciço eyes Salomé with lust, and the two have a sexual moment in Salomé's tent, while Dasdô suspects but mutes her outrage.

Facing mounting pressures and the lure of wealth, Lorde Cigano decides to push the caravan toward Altamira. The group's trajectory shifts from local gigs to a long trudge toward a rumored prosperous city. The choice sets the stage for further hardship.

Dasdô goes into labor as they navigate a long, straight dirt road through dense jungle. They encounter indigenous people asking for a ride to Altamira, and Cigano agrees to take them for a price. The journey becomes both physically and emotionally taxing.

Arriving in Altamira, they discover a highly developed city far from the rural image they expected. Struggling to earn money, Swallow wrestles another strongman for their truck, losing and leaving the caravan without transport. In desperation, Cigano proposes Salomé temporarily prostitutes herself to raise funds.

That night Swallow abandons the group, and Cigano beds Dasdô. The caravan splinters emotionally as power and money worries drive the dynamics inside the troupe. Salomé’s return with cash marks a temporary return to some stability.

In the morning, Salomé brings back money and Cigano splits it with Ciço. He orders Ciço to leave with Dasdô, a demand Ciço resists. Cigano then pressures Ciço to tell his wife, and Ciço is pushed toward leaving with Dasdô to work in a whorehouse.

In the following town, a man courts Dasdô in a bar; Salomé sleeps with him, while Ciço plans to take Dasdô to Brasília. The next morning, Ciço is found outside their hotel room, declaring he won’t go to Brasília and confessing love for Salomé.

Lorde Cigano loses patience and punches Ciço, knocking him out and ejecting him onto a bus. Ciço and Dasdô end up traveling to Brasília, severed from the caravan's core leadership. The conflict marks a decisive break in the troupe.

Some time later, Ciço and Dasdô perform on a small club stage with their child in the band. A loudspeaker announces a neon-lit Caravana Rolidey truck, driven by Salomé with Cigano in the passenger seat, signaling a broader, modernized voyage inland. Ciço declines to rejoin, while Salomé and the others drive off along the highway toward the unknown future.
