Why this book?

Alan Rudolph's film retains Dwayne Hoover, his Midland City automobile business and mental collapse, Kilgore Trout's journey to the arts festival, Celia, Bunny, Harry LeSabre, Wayne Hoobler, and the disastrous meeting in which Trout's fiction helps release Dwayne's violence. It translates Vonnegut's digressive sketches into heightened sets, performance, and fragmented editing, but removes the author as an active creator who enters his own book, releases Trout, and comments on every social category. The characters and collision are adapted directly while the novel's drawings, invented stories, second creation narrative, and formal argument cannot survive intact.
