Blood on the Sun

In 1929 the Tanaka Memorial plan is published in the Tokyo Chronicle, revealing Baron Giichi Tanaka's alleged plan to conquer the world. The disclosure triggers the Japanese secret police to pressure editor Nick Condon, who deflects by citing the source as 'The American Press.'

The Japanese secret police visit the newspaper's headquarters and demand that editor Nick Condon reveal the plan's source. Condon refuses to name his source, escalating the danger to him and his newsroom.

Ollie Miller, the Chronicle reporter who obtained the plan, is murdered by a secret police arrangement after he flaunts the money he was paid at a local press bar. The killing sets off a chain of events that centers on the document's fate.

Condon visits Miller's cabin on the ship to bid him farewell and finds Edith murdered and the cabin ransacked. He also glimpses a ruby ring on a fleeing woman, hinting at a hidden player connected to the case.

Miller dies, but before dying he passes the Tanaka Memorial to Condon. Condon hides the document in his bedroom behind Emperor Hirohito's portrait, and the secret police fail to search the portrait, allowing the document to remain hidden for now.

The Japanese police arrest Condon, fabricating a drunken-party story to explain the damage to his house and the missing document. Condon wakes up in a prison cell with the document gone, realizing the conspiracy has well and truly closed in.

Condon is invited to Baron Tanaka's home, where the baron offers a substantial sum to return the document. Condon quickly realizes Tanaka does not actually possess the document and that more powerful forces are at work.

Condon publicly announces his plan to return to the United States and meets Iris Hilliard, a half-Chinese woman with a ring similar to one he saw before. Unbeknownst to him, Iris is a spy for Tanaka, tasked with retrieving the Memorial.

Iris admits she works for Tanaka but maintains loyalty to Japan's liberal faction, and she reveals she took the Tanaka Memorial from Condon's house. Condon retrieves the document from her, but Iris is captured by the secret police and later escapes from a hotel room.

Disgraced by the failure to secure the Memorial, Baron Tanaka commits seppuku, signaling the collapse of his faction's influence over the document's fate.

On a fishing dock, Condon meets Iris again, accompanied by Tatsugi, a liberal within the Japanese government who signs the document to legitimize it. The police arrive and kill Tatsugi, while Iris flees with the document and Condon delays the officers.

Condon defeats Captain Oshima in a confrontation and reaches the United States embassy, where he is shot and incapacitated. An American diplomat arrives to aid him, and the secret police chief offers forgiveness to his enemy, which Condon refuses, choosing to seek justice instead.
