In the ending of Blink, Apoorva makes the heartbreaking decision to sacrifice his own life for the sake of stopping the endless cycle of time travel. Throughout the film, he discovers a complex web of truths about his identity and his family’s history. He learns that the man he believed to be his father, Gopal, was not his biological father, but rather a man who had only raised him, while his real parents were Devaki and Arivu, who were involved in time travel experiments. Arivu, who is actually Apoorva’s biological father as well as his past self, had been traveling through time in a bid to find love and belonging, but his actions created a paradox that haunted all their lives. As Apoorva unravels these truths, he also discovers a disturbing link between himself and Swapna — she is connected to Revathi, who was actually Arivu’s love interest and the woman he tried to save from suicide. This revelation means Apoorva unknowingly slept with his mother, making their relationship one of tragic Oedipal proportions. Overwhelmed by this knowledge and feeling responsible for the chaos his existence has caused, Apoorva chooses to end his life, killing both himself and the professor who helped create this tangled web. His sacrifice aims to break the cycle of infinite time loops and to prevent further suffering. In the final moments, the characters around him, symbolized by their masks, no longer exist, indicating that the timeline he knew has been erased, and all those involved in his tragic, convoluted story are gone. The film suggests that by ending his life, Apoorva hopes to restore a form of peace, even if it means losing everyone he had loved and known.
