Travis Graham Stephen Baldwin is a lonely, impressionable young man in Texas whose abusive father has just died. The will is odd: all of the father’s money goes to a TV preacher, while Travis inherits a valuable coin collection and a sprawling farm. This mix of wealth and vulnerability leaves Travis adrift, looking for guidance and affection in a world that has already treated him harshly.
Into his isolated life step two women. First comes Kelly Ann Welsh Jennifer Rubin, a young woman who carries herself with easy confidence and a keen eye for opportunity. Not far behind her is Jolene Patsy Kensit, a striking blonde who claims to have come from England and to be interested in buying the farm. Both women are secretly after something, and Travis—still reeling from his father’s death—finds himself drawn to the attention and comfort they offer. As their affection grows, he becomes vulnerable to their influence, even when he senses he may be being used.
Despite his initial reluctance, Travis is drawn into their plan to ride along on a series of bank robberies around town. The trio’s scheme spirals as the local law enforcement begins to tighten its gaze, with Deputy Bobby Adam Baldwin growing increasingly suspicious. The two young women, determined to keep their game intact, escalate their actions with deadly preparations rather than risk losing the opportunity they’ve found in Travis.
The film’s climactic twist upends everything: Kelly Ann and Jolene are sisters, and Jolene isn’t from England at all—she’s from Alabama. They have been quietly plotting to steal Travis’s father’s money along with the cash from their heists, and to keep the fraud going, they’re willing to eliminate anyone who threatens their hoard. The truth lands hard on Travis when he learns that Deputy Bobby has been murdered in their pursuit of cash and control.
A violent confrontation follows. In the ensuing struggle, Travis manages to shoot and wound Jolene, but Kelly Ann mortally wounds him in return. The two sisters then dispose of Travis’s body in a furnace, leaving the farm behind in Travis’s convertible as they slip away toward unknown destinations in search of their next target. What began as a plea for connection spirals into a merciless con, ending with two cold witnesses to a young man’s ruin who move on to their next victim, their future unspeakably ambiguous.
