In 1915, Boston-based activist and newspaper editor William M. Trotter confronted D.W. Griffith’s influential film, The Birth of a Nation, a technically impressive work that also glorified the Ku Klux Klan. This confrontation sparked a pivotal moment in the ongoing struggle for civil rights, exploring themes of media representation and Hollywood's power. The documentary, inspired by Dick Lehr’s book, examines this clash between human rights and freedom of speech within a rapidly evolving media landscape and its lasting impact.
