Big Stan

Stan Minton is arrested for conning elderly people. His lawyer Mal defends him at the trial presided over by Judge Perry. The jury forewoman reads the guilty verdict and the sentencing will be the following day.

Mal refuses to bribe Judge Perry and Stan fires him, hiring Lew Popper to handle the sentencing. Judge Perry sentences Stan to three years at Verlaine Correctional Facility and imposes six months to reorganize the charity.

With his assets frozen, Stan drinks away his frustration and ends up at a biker bar. There, a biker ex-con instills a fear of jailhouse rape, a trauma that strains his marriage to Mindy.

After failing to learn self defense at Master Cho's dojo, Stan is approached by a mysterious guru known as The Master who begins training him in martial arts. Under The Master's guidance, Stan quickly proves adept, passing each lesson and even besting Master Cho.

Lew informs Stan he is reassigned to Oaksburg Correctional Facility and Stan is processed for prison. The Master and Lew bid him farewell while Mindy watches tearfully from afar.

Inside Oaksburg, Stan befriends an elderly inmate named Larry and encounters a sympathetic guard named Bullard. He begins to learn about the prison’s cliques, gangs, and social dynamics.

Using his new skills, Stan brings peace to the prison yard by discouraging violence and preventing fights. He earns the inmates' respect and gradually becomes a leader among them.

Warden Gasque schemes to force the prison's closure by provoking a riot and selling the property. Dang, another Master student, asks Stan for help with real estate maneuvers in exchange for early parole, and Stan agrees.

On parole day, Stan follows his conscience and rushes back, blowing the hearing. He defeats Dang and averts bloodshed, and the inmates respond with dancing rather than fighting. The warden orders the guards to fire, but Mindy and The Master intervene, and Stan learns that The Master trained Mindy during her incarceration.

Three years have passed and Stan is on his final day in prison, with Bullard now the warden and Lew returning to greet him. The No Rape law remains in effect, and Gasque has become an inmate while Big Raymond bids Stan farewell. Outside the gates, Stan is greeted by Mindy, their daughter Mindy Jr., and The Master; Stan becomes Mindy Jr.'s nanny as they drive off into the sunset, with The Master winking at the camera.
