Discovery of the brass idol

Atin receives a mysterious brass idol from his friend Subesh's antique shop. He is intrigued by the goddess' features—the veena in the upper left, the kharga in the upper right, the human skull in the lower left, and the mudra in the lower right. Subesh explains the idol's true name is unknown, and its power remains a mystery.

Haunting dreams begin after bringing the idol home

Soon after bringing the idol to his house, Atin starts to have haunted dreams every night. In these dreams, a green-complexioned goddess appears and asks him to feed her and satisfy her hunger. He begins offering her flowers and fruits as bhog, hoping to appease the entity.

Bhavesh Kaku analyzes the idol's appearance and identifies it as a Tantric goddess. He warns Atin and Pushpa di against worship without proper knowledge of the rituals. He explains that the unknown goddess could invoke wrath if misused.

A mysterious homeless widow, Damri, stops Atin's car and asks for food. Atin offers her shelter, and she moves in despite Pushpa di's objections. She enthusiastically prepares bhog for the goddess.

The day after Damri's arrival, the goddess eats Atin's offerings for the first time. He senses something magical in Damri's cooking, as the goddess begins to eat the bhog more reliably. Damri's presence seems to empower the ritual.

The trio meets a priest who explains the idol represents Matangi, the ninth Mahavidya. He recounts the family’s lineage and Sahashraksh Chakraborty's decree that the idol be handed to anyone who leaves the ancestral house. He warns that misusing the idol could invite a petni that will kill the worshipper at 1 amavasya.

On the way home from work, Atin meets Krishnananda Maitra, who gives him a sapphire pendant locket and advises never to take it off. Maitra assures Maa Mahamaya will protect him. After donning the locket, Atin regains his sanity and discovers Pushpa di is missing.

Amavasya eve brings ominous signs

On amavasya, the goddess does not eat the previous day's offerings; Damri promises to cook Mohabhog for that day. On the roof, Atin discovers tantric yantras and dead birds and cats, signaling a deeper danger. Bhavesh Kaku warns that Damri is a petni and that their only chance is to confront her directly.

Duel with Damri and the petni is slain

Damri resumes her grisly ritual, cooking a hand in a pot and using Maya to force Atin into weakness. He sees Pushpa di's hand in the pot and confronts her. In the struggle, Bhavesh is knocked unconscious, and Atin, mustering his strength, removes the locket, touches Damri's forehead with it, and she is killed.

A week later, Bhavesh regains his conscience and advises immersion of the idol in the Hooghly river to break the cycle. Atin complies, casting the idol away and possibly ending the terror.
