Beyond Tomorrow

On Christmas Eve, George Melton, Michael O'Brien, and Allan Chadwick return to Madame Tanya's mansion for a quietly elegant Christmas dinner. To chase away the gloom, they hatch a plan: toss wallets containing ten dollars and a business card into the street to lure new guests.

George's wallet is picked up by Arlene Terry, a rising star in the singing world. She hands the money back to her driver and discards the card, softening the moment with her simple gesture.

The other wallets are retrieved by strangers who prove to be more than kind: James Houston and Jean Lawrence arrive as dinner guests. They quickly befriend the three engineers and Madame Tanya, and a warm bond begins to form.

As the evening unfolds, the hosts welcome James and Jean into their circle and a gentle romance starts to bloom. The friendship among all six deepens amid conversation, music, and the holiday atmosphere.

The engineers must travel to another city on business, and Madame Tanya pleads with Michael to take the train instead of flying. He insists the flight will be safe, but fate has other plans.

Their aircraft is swallowed by a violent storm, and the crash claims all three lives. The news shatters the living circle, and James and Jean must face a future without their mentors.

Back at the mansion, faint whispers drift through the halls, suggesting the benevolent ghosts are watching over the living. Madame Tanya senses a quiet vigil as the house feels different without the trio.

Michael had left bonds to James and Jean so they could afford to marry, and the story quickly travels through the press. The couple’s future is secured by the memory of the engineers’ generosity.

James is invited to be a guest on a radio show, a dream he has pursued for years. Arlene recognizes his talent and, with her manager, offers him a starring role in a new show.

As rehearsals progress, James grows infatuated with Arlene, and Jean begins to fade from his thoughts. The three benevolent ghosts watch quietly, unable to intervene in mortal affairs.

Arlene's ex-husband resurfaces, follows the couple to a dinner, and opens fire. James is wounded and dies on the operating table, shocking everyone present.

A benevolent voice seems to grant James a second chance, and he is restored to life. The ghostly trio dissolves as Michael is reunited with George, and both engineers are finally admitted into Heaven, ending their long farewell to the living.
