Beijing Bicycle

Guei, a 17-year-old rural boy, leaves his hometown with aspirations of finding work in the bustling city of Beijing. He embarks on this journey alongside his peers, eager for new opportunities and a better future.

Upon arrival in Beijing, Guei and his friends secure jobs at a courier company that provides them with brand-new bicycles for deliveries. The manager, Xie Jian, informs them about the pay structure, emphasizing that they will only earn a small percentage until they own their bicycles.

After two months of hard work, Guei successfully completes enough deliveries to qualify for ownership of his own bicycle. This milestone represents a significant achievement for him, as it promises to increase his earnings considerably.

On the day that Guei is set to claim ownership of his new bicycle, tragedy strikes when it is stolen while he steps away to retrieve an important document. This unexpected event throws Guei's plans into disarray and leads to dire consequences.

After failing to deliver the package due to the theft, Guei is dismissed by the manager, Xie Jian. In a moment of desperation, Guei pleads for his job back, promising to recover the stolen bike, which leads to Jian reluctantly agreeing to rehire him.

In a separate storyline, Jian, a schoolboy, dreams of owning a bicycle to impress the girl he has a crush on, Xiao. However, his father refuses to buy him one, choosing to invest in his younger sister's prestigious education instead.

Out of frustration, Jian resorts to stealing money from his family to purchase Guei's stolen bicycle from a second-hand dealer. This decision sets off a chain of conflict between him and Guei, as they become entangled in the pursuit of the same bicycle.

Guei's friend, Mantis, spots Jian with the stolen bicycle, prompting Guei to confront him. Tensions escalate as Guei attempts to reclaim his bike, leading to a struggle with Jian and his group of friends, culminating in a heated chase.

After a determined pursuit, Guei manages to retrieve his bicycle from Jian's hiding spot. Elated, he returns to work, but his joy is short-lived as trouble looms on the horizon with Jian's gang.

Guei is ambushed by Jian and his friends at the courier company, leading to a violent confrontation. In a desperate attempt to escape, Guei is beaten and his bicycle is taken again, deepening his troubles.

Back at home, Jian faces his father's wrath after being accused of theft. The confrontation escalates, resulting in Jian being punished, which paradoxically allows Guei to leave with the bicycle in the chaos.

After agreeing to share the bicycle, Guei and Jian initially find a compromise, alternating its use. However, the peace is short-lived as complications arise when Jian's jealousy over Xiao's affection for Da Huan disrupts their arrangement.

Jian's jealousy intensifies when he sees Xiao's interest in Da Huan, a bicycle freestylist. Enraged, Jian takes action against Da Huan, sparking further tension and conflict that threatens his friendship with Guei.

During a climactic encounter, Jian disavows his need for the bicycle and returns it to Guei. Chaos ensues as they find themselves pursued by Da Huan's aggressive gang, leading to a brutal confrontation where they are cornered and assaulted.

After surviving the ordeal, a single gang member vandalizes Guei's bicycle in a moment of anger. In retaliation, Guei strikes back with a brick, knocking the assailant unconscious, and walks away defiantly with his damaged bike, showcasing his resilience.
