Jan, a young assistant professor of chemistry, is a dedicated workaholic. Anna, an unsuccessful science writer, turns to him for advice and a glimpse of human compassion. Though she makes earnest, occasionally clumsy attempts to breach his defenses, Jan stays absorbed in his career and remains emotionally distant.
