Two emerging filmmakers bring to the screen adaptations of short stories by Russian writers whose works were prohibited for decades, resulting in their film being sealed in the censor’s vault for twenty years. Both narratives reflect the post‑revolutionary period: Olesha’s “Angel” laments the era’s cruelty and ruin, while Platonov’s “The Homeland of Electricity” portrays its unsettling, grotesque atmosphere.
