Tess Marshall arrives at her Airbnb destination on Barbary Street, only to discover that she has no key to enter the property. As doubts about her booking swell, she notices a flicker inside the house and feels compelled to ring the doorbell.

To her surprise, Keith Toshko opens the door, explaining that he too has booked the same Airbnb. Lacking options, Tess reluctantly accepts his invitation to stay with him until they can sort out the confusion.

As the night progresses, Tess and Keith share a drink and engage in conversation. Tess reveals she is in town for an interview with filmmaker Bonnie Zane, and Keith admits he has seen her previous film, sparking a growing connection between the two.

Later that night, Tess wakes up to Keith's labored breathing, leading to a moment of panic. Despite her concern, Keith reassures her that everything is fine, brushing off her fears.

The following morning, Tess heads outside for her interview, only to be disturbed by the sight of derelict houses surrounding the Airbnb. At the restaurant, her mention of the house shifts Bonnie's demeanor drastically, prompting her to urgently advise Tess to leave.

Upon returning home, Tess encounters Andre, who warns her frantically to escape the Airbnb. Although unsettled, Tess continues her investigation, leading her to the basement where she finds herself trapped.

In the basement, Tess finds a rope secured to the wall, leading to a hidden tunnel. Gathering her courage, she ventures into the dark passage where she is confronted by a chilling room with a bed and a bloody handprint on the wall.

Just as Tess uncovers the horrifying room, she encounters Keith, who becomes increasingly unstable after an unseen attack. Before they can escape, an ominous figure, known as 'The Mother', brutally ends Keith's life, much to Tess's terror.

The narrative shifts to AJ Gilbride, a screenwriter facing serious allegations. In a desperate attempt for refuge, he travels to the same Airbnb where Tess is trapped, unaware of the horrors awaiting him.

Upon his arrival, AJ discovers Tess's abandoned luggage and is drawn to explore the basement. As he delves deeper, The Mother begins her relentless pursuit, leading to a terrifying reunion with Tess.

Tess and AJ are trapped in a pit, where Tess's bravery stands in stark contrast to AJ's initial reluctance to act. As tension escalates, they realize the horrifying truth about The Mother and the legacy of abuse stemming from Frank's past.

Tess attempts to reach out to law enforcement for help after Andre's warning, but the authorities dismiss her plea, believing her disheveled appearance indicates drug use. Left without support, Tess decides to face The Mother again.

As night falls, Tess returns to the Airbnb to retrieve her vehicle keys. Just as she's about to escape, The Mother confronts her, but Tess fights back desperately, using her car to momentarily stun her pursuer.

In a terrifying climax, AJ discovers distressing tapes of Frank's abuses and confronts him. Their confrontation leads to AJ's shock upon realizing the extent of Frank's depravity, but chaos ensues leading to a tragic accident as AJ accidentally shoots Tess.

In the final moments, Tess gathers her strength and confronts The Mother, ultimately deciding to end the cycle of violence by pulling the trigger. With The Mother incapacitated, she sets off to find medical aid, determined and resilient.
