Using his position as a bank gold appraiser, Bhavani leveraged his access to gold loans tied to Nagaraju, who controlled gold flow and used it for high-interest ventures. He and his allies melted old gold and forged new jewels, planning to switch them with the fake temple jewels later. The plan involved keeping the genuine jewels temporarily at the deity's temple during a ceremonial exchange while the fakes remained in a bank locker.

Mahalakshmi left her home with her share of the family property, which included the jewels. When Nagaraju presented a note from his daughter as proof of her departure, it revealed that Mahalakshmi had fled with the jewels in her possession, taking them away from the family.

Nagaraju publicly humiliated Bhavani, accusing him of using the bank and temple for personal gain and demanding his jewels back.
