Baby takes place in the crowded slum neighborhoods of Hyderabad, India. The story centers on Vaishnavi and Anand, who grow up together in this urban environment marked by poverty while maintaining family bonds and aspirations for a better future through education.

Vaishnavi Chaitanya is a slum-raised high school student who falls in love with her neighbor Anand. She struggles with the desire to belong to a wealthier social circle while trying to preserve her core relationship, leading to emotional conflicts and difficult choices that test her identity and loyalty.

Anand Deverakonda is Vaishnavi's neighbor and boyfriend, raised in the same Hyderabad slum. He works driving an auto rickshaw to support his family while dealing with financial hardship. His controlling tendencies and family tensions create friction in the relationship, though his love for Vaishnavi remains a central force in his life.

Viraj Ashwin is a wealthy classmate who becomes enamored with Vaishnavi. His presence in her life complicates her relationship with Anand and represents the social pressures and material temptations that threaten to pull her away from her roots.
