Balraj Kapoor Amitabh Bachchan is a rich businessman, happy and content with his world. He and his wife Shobhna Kapoor Hema Malini wait for their only son Avinash Kapoor Salman Khan a.k.a. “Avi” to return from his studies in the United States. After seven years, Avinash completes his education, comes back to India, and joins his father's business.

Avinash meets Malvika a.k.a. “Millie” Rani Mukerji, and the two fall in love. Millie tells her childhood friend Rajat Verma John Abraham that she loves someone, which devastates him as he is also in love with her. He asks Avinash to keep Millie happy.

Avinash and Millie get married and have a baby boy they name Ansh. A couple years later, during Ansh's birthday party, the family waits for Avinash to return home from a business trip in London to close a huge deal; he dies in a road accident after stepping into the ongoing traffic, leaving Millie devastated.

Balraj seeks to bring happiness back into his widowed daughter-in-law's life. He contacts Rajat in London, informs him of Avinash's death, and asks him to marry Millie upon learning of Rajat's feelings for her. Rajat meets Ansh and bonds well with him. However, there is stiff opposition from Shobhna Kapoor Hema Malini and Balwant Kapoor Om Puri, Balraj's conservative older brother. Shobhna fears losing her grandson Ansh while Balwant takes the traditional view that a woman marrying twice is a sin. Still, Balraj stands firm and convinces everyone.

In the end, Rajat and Millie get married, and everything seems to be okay. Avinash returns as a spirit and blesses his dad with happiness and gratitude, completing the circle of love and family.

Q4

Why did the family oppose Millie's remarriage?

Shobhna (Avin's mother) and Balwant (Balraj's conservative older brother) opposed the remarriage for different reasons. Shobhna feared losing her grandson Ansh, worried that Millie remarrying might separate her from the child. Balwant held the traditional view that a woman marrying twice is a sin and considered it inappropriate for a widow to remarry. Their objections represented the social stigma and family preservation concerns of that era.

Q5

How did Balraj convince his family to accept the remarriage?

Balraj stood firm in his conviction that Millie deserved happiness and that Rajat could be a loving partner for her and a good father to Ansh. He argued that keeping Millie happy would honor Avin's memory and ensure Ansh would have a stable family life. Balraj's unwavering resolve gradually convinced the skeptical family members, particularly addressing Shobhna's fears about losing Ansh and Balwant's traditional objections.

Q8

Why did Rajat ask Avinash to keep Millie happy despite loving her?

Rajat asked Avinash to keep Millie happy because he prioritized her joy over his own feelings. He believed Avinash could make Millie happier than he ever could, demonstrating his genuine love which was about her well-being, not possession.

Foreshadowing: This act of sacrifice foreshadows Rajat's eventual acceptance of responsibility for Millie and Ansh after Avin's death.
