Azrael

Azrael is set in a post-Rapture world where a fanatically religious sect has silenced their followers to prepare for the return of Christ, which has already happened. Azrael and her boyfriend Kenan are trying to escape from this brutal, silent church, but they are captured because the group believes Azrael is special — possibly the mother of the Antichrist. In their relentless pursuit to capture her, the church’s members, led by the pregnant Miriam, see her as a sacrificial threat meant to be devoured by zombies or killed to bring about salvation. However, Azrael proves to be incredibly resilient, slipping away from capture multiple times. The film hints that Miriam’s pregnancy is not of a Holy Infant but the Antichrist, which she ends up giving birth to in a shocking climax. When Miriam’s water breaks during her struggle, she delivers a dark, demonic child, and the zombies outside shriek in a sinister welcome. Azrael’s connection to the zombie-like creatures and Miriam’s reaction suggest that the baby is indeed the Antichrist—an abomination born from the false promises of salvation. Interestingly, Azrael shows an instinctual protectiveness towards the newborn, clutching the demonic infant in her arms as chaos erupts around her.
