In 1543, at the University of Salamanca, Spain, Fray Antonio Román, an Augustinian monk promoting humanist ideas, dies under suspicious circumstances. Among his students was the brilliant novice Luis de León, part of a secret group of inquisitive learners. Centuries later, historian Lara Cabanes is commissioned to investigate the monk's death and determine if he was murdered. Her research will reveal long-hidden secrets and challenges her understanding of the events.
