Anweshippin Kandethum

Anweshippin Kandethum follows two murder cases investigated by SI Anand [Tovino Thomas], a principled and straightforward police officer, and his team as they untangle a pair of deadly puzzles.

It opens with Anand’s return to duty after a brief and unexpected suspension, instantly thrusting him into a complex mystery that soon unfolds in a series of flashbacks. The film then travels back in time to reveal Anand’s arduous path into the police force, shaped by the guidance of his retired father Narayana Pillai. He is posted as a Sub Inspector at the Kottayam police station, where his first case involves the disappearance of a Christian girl, Lovely Mathan Anagha Maya Ravi. Lovely Mathan often visited a nearby vicarage, and Anand heads there to question the priest, only to face stiff resistance from parishioners.

Religious sensitivities complicate the investigation, and Anand is removed from the case, with DYSP Alex—depicted as a corrupt officer—taking the lead. The inquiry pivots to another suspect: an ex-criminal who reportedly lived nearby the Mathans. Yet Anand, aided by some subordinates, forensic experts, and his superior SP Rajagopal Siddique, uncovers the true culprits. When Anand arrests the culprit and brings him to the court, the man escapes custody and commits suicide by jumping in front of a running train. The fallout leads to Anand and his team being suspended for their perceived negligence, a decision Rajagopal—who understands the underlying truth but feels he has little choice—must endorse.

Back in the present, SP Rajagopal assigns Anand to reopen a cold murder case involving a young woman named Sridevi Arthana Binu. The investigation begins at Cheruvally, but progress is hampered by a wary and hostile village bothered by the legacy of police brutality during the original inquiry. Only Raveendran Nair, a retired constable who served at the time, offers a broad perspective on the case. As the inquiry advances, Anand finally identifies the culprit and returns to the station, but Raveendran’s suicide before an arrest can be made leaves the case unresolved for the moment. The outcome lingers, leaving the team and their community waiting for redemption as they reckon with the weight of past actions and the hope of clearing the present.
