In 1962, Buffalo Bob and Horatio Huntington run a successful traveling circus and captivate audiences with daring acts. Esmeralda introduces her beautiful niece Talia, drawing both men toward her. Bob and Horatio are smitten, and their wedding is planned for 1964, despite the rivalry between them. Esmeralda gifts a mysterious box that promises to unlock a new kind of circus.

In 1964, Bob marries Talia, uniting the two men by marriage as well as showmanship. Esmeralda presents the box as a wedding gift, claiming it can open a new era for the circus. When opened, the box seems to unleash fresh possibilities for the troupe and their tricks. The newlyweds register the box as the symbol of the circus's ongoing magic.

Years later, Bob's nephew Owen marries his childhood friend Zoe at the circus where they first met. The wedding cements a second generation into the family business and its growing renown. The couple's bond is celebrated by an audience that has watched the troupe evolve under the box's influence. The romance also foreshadows the tension between Owen's ordinary life and the circus's fantastical demands.

Owen is browbeaten into working as a taste tester for Zoe's father, Mr. Woodley, at his dog biscuit factory to prove his worth to the family. He works alongside Binkley, who is tinkering with a new biscuit recipe while Woodley's assistant Brock undermines their efforts. The factory provides a stark contrast to the carnival's magic, testing Owen's patience and loyalty. He endures the pressure to keep his wife and the circus satisfied.

A few years after the marriage, Horatio's luck and power falter and he schemes to seize control of the circus. He sneaks into Bob and Talia's dressing rooms hoping to learn the secret of the animal magic and accidentally starts a fire. The blaze seemingly kills Bob and Talia, prompting a funeral attended by Owen, Zoe, and their daughter Mackenzie. Horatio returns to claim the circus, sparking a confrontation with the remaining Huntington entourage.

Before Horatio leaves, Old Blue and Zena—the family's faithful pets—hand the Huntington brothers a mysterious box. They soon discover it contains animal crackers that power the circus's acts. The realization cements the box as a central instrument of the troupe's success. The brothers vow to use the box to reopen the circus on their terms.

Owen eats one of the animal crackers and instantly transforms into a hamster. The Huntingtons rush to understand what happened and seek guidance from clown Chesterfield, who explains that the crackers transform the eater into the animal they consume and that only a single human cracker can reverse the change. This discovery explains how the circus has secretly operated for years and hints at the fragility of their magic.

The Huntington brothers reveal that they have inherited the circus, setting the stage for Zoe's excitement about the future. Owen, however, chooses to stay at the dog biscuit factory to please Mr. Woodley, delaying his own ambitions. Zoe begins to revive the circus, while Woodley contemplates Brock as a possible replacement in Zoe's absence. The family dynamic becomes a driving force behind the next acts.

The reopened circus is a disaster with no animals to perform. Owen reluctantly eats another cracker and performs as an animal, growing to enjoy it and deciding to quit his factory job. Brock, meanwhile, eats a cracker and becomes a mandrill, triggering a chase as Mario Zucchini steals more pieces of the crackers. The show teeters on the edge of disaster and wonder.

Owen pursues Brock as a lion, but Mario uses the chaos to steal more cracker pieces. Brock is captured, and Owen discovers he has lost his last human cracker, threatening permanent life as an animal. The stakes rise as the circus prepares for a battle to save its humanity and its future.

During a performance, Horatio returns and offers Owen's mountain gorilla form in exchange for the circus, triggering Plan B. Horatio's hybrid henchmen forcibly feed him the human cookie, turning the stage into a chaotic battleground as performers switch to animal forms to defend the troupe. The conflict escalates toward a final reckoning with Horatio.

Horatio evolves into a six-limbed Chimera and battles Old Blue and Zena, who reveal themselves as Bob and Talia alive but trapped in animal form due to the broken human crackers. The revelation reframes the crisis as a chance for redemption rather than pure revenge. The fate of the circus hinges on whether Horatio can change.

Owen uses Bullet Man in his black rhinoceros form to shoot down Horatio as he and Bob land in a net. Mackenzie transforms into a golden snub-nosed monkey to save Talia, and Zoe, Owen, and Mackenzie coordinate with other performers to subdue Horatio. The circus fights to reclaim its humanity and its future from the brink of ruin.

With the battle over, Chesterfield reveals that the human crackers have been broken as a side effect of eating broken pieces, and it will take time to sort who belongs to whom. Mario advises taking a measured approach to rebuild trust and the magic that powers the show. The circus begins to plan a controlled revival rather than reckless stunts.

By the next show, the troupe unveils animal crackers that temporarily tint the eater's skin to resemble the animal they become. Owen consumes a new cracker and takes the stage as a dragon, signaling a transformed circus that blends animal magic with human artistry. The audience witnesses a new era where the boundary between animal and human is intentionally blurred.
