In 1928 Amelia Earhart first gains worldwide recognition when she joins a crew as a passenger on a successful trans‑Atlantic flight. Eight years later, she and navigator Fred Noonan set out on an ambitious round‑the‑world route, the longest flight of her career, but the aircraft vanished over the Pacific before completing the journey.
