Against All Odds

Professional football player Terry Brogan is released by his team, marking a turning point in his career. With his age, injuries, and financial struggles weighing heavily on him, Terry finds himself at a crossroads.

Terry is contacted by Jake Wise, a shady gambler and nightclub owner, who offers him a job to find his missing girlfriend, Jessie Wyler. Despite his initial reluctance, Terry feels pressured by Jake's reputation for blackmail.

Terry visits Jessie's mother, who offers him a lucrative deal to find her daughter. However, Mrs. Wyler makes it clear that she has no interest in Terry's football career and sees him as a means to an end.

After much deliberation and encouragement from the team's trainer, Hank Sully, Terry decides to work for Jake Wise. He believes that taking this job will be a temporary measure to tide him over until he can resume his football career.

Terry tracks down Jessie in Cozumel, Mexico, but she initially rebuffs him, suspicious of his intentions. After some attempts to connect, she eventually invites him into her life, and they develop a romantic relationship.

As their relationship deepens, Terry confesses his troubled past involving point-shaving in a football game due to financial pressures. This admission creates a bond between them but also hangs over Terry like a dark cloud.

Hank Sully, sent by Jake to track Terry and Jessie, confronts them while they are alone at the ruins of Chichen Itza. A struggle ensues, leading to Jessie shooting Sully in self-defense, escalating their situation significantly.

After disposing of Sully's body, Terry returns to Los Angeles only to discover that Jessie has gone back to Jake. This betrayal leaves Terry feeling bitter and trapped in a web of deceit and corruption.

Under pressure from Jake, Terry is tasked to break into the office of corrupt lawyer Kirsch to retrieve important files. To his shock, he finds Kirsch dead, forcing him to fight for his life against a hired security guard.

Terry, with the help of Kirsch's secretary Edie, manages to escape with crucial files that could expose the gambling syndicate. As the stakes rise, their lives are entwined in a dangerous chase for the truth.

Jessie, still in love with Terry but bound to Jake, informs Ben Caxton about Jake's corrupt activities. Unbeknownst to her, Caxton is actually part of the syndicate, complicating her efforts to distance herself from the wrongdoing.

During a tense meeting, Terry confronts Caxton about the files and demands that Jake be taken down. The situation escalates when Jake reveals himself, threatening Jessie and forcing Terry to comply.

In a surprising turn of events, Jessie retrieves the gun and shoots Jake, breaking free from his control. However, she must now negotiate terms with Caxton to avoid facing legal consequences for her actions.

Months later, Terry attends a publicity event for Caxton's construction project, wanting one last look at Jessie before leaving for Miami. Despite being apart, they share a moment of silent understanding, hinting at their unresolved connection.

As Terry acknowledges the separation from Jessie, he maintains hope that one day she will break free from the hold of Caxton and her mother. Their intertwined fates leave a lingering sense of what could be, despite their current distance.
