Following the removal of her fourth grandchild, Hazel confronts the system. Jen Swan is devastated when DOCS deems her unfit to care for her grandchildren, a blow felt acutely by her sister, Deb, who works for the department. The film highlights the disturbing rise in Indigenous child removal since the 2008 apology and follows four grandmothers who unite to advocate for extended families to care for children in state care, challenging the existing system and striving for change.
