During the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Lt. Commander Vikramjeet Singh commands a ship supported by Major General Amarjeet Singh's troops. The ship is attacked by a Pakistani submarine, sustains heavy damage and sinks, taking Vikramjeet with it. He nonetheless heroically rescues about a hundred trapped army personnel before the vessel goes down.

Years after 1971, Vikramjeet's son Kunaljeet joins the Indian Army as a captain. He lacks the selflessness of his father and grandfather, treating service as a means to personal gain. He plans a short stint and a future move to the United States to build a business.

During his early career, Kunaljeet falls in love with Shweta Bhansali. He resolves to stay in the army to remain close to her. This attachment begins shaping his view of service toward personal ambitions.
