What Happens in Aambala: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Aambala (2015) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Saravanan [Vishal Krishna] lives in the misty hill town of Ooty, where he runs a small business that coordinates crowds for political rallies and events. One day, he encounters Maya [Hansika Motwani], and a spark quickly grows between them. But their budding romance faces a rival in RDX Rajasekhar [Santhanam], a police inspector who also has feelings for Maya.

Saravanan manages to convince Rajasekhar not to pursue Maya, arguing that she is far out of his league. Yet fate has other plans: a string of misunderstandings and mishaps leads to Rajasekhar being fired from his job and taking a job as a hotel doorman. He is stunned to discover that Maya and Saravanan are openly dating, and he asks how Saravanan won Maya’s heart. As Saravanan finishes his side of the story, it becomes clear that his scheming and missteps have indirectly fueled many of Rajasekhar’s recent problems.

Enraged, Rajasekhar seeks a fix and hires Kumaran [Vaibhav], a specialist in breakups. Kumaran’s method is blunt: he sends a woman who causes Maya to call off the relationship with Saravanan. Heartbreak follows, and a despondent Saravanan drinks himself into a stupor until Kumaran leaves him at his home. Saravanan’s mother Thulasi [Tulasi], ashamed by his behavior, sends him to Madurai to reunite with his father Aalavanthan [Prabhu] and his younger brother Shakthivel [Sathish].

In Madurai, they learn that Kumaran is the son of Aalavanthan’s former lover, a revelation that shifts the family’s loyalties and loyalties’ loyalties. Aalavanthan gathers his sons and reveals a surprising truth: they have three aunts—Periya Ponnu [Ramya Krishnan], Nadu Ponnu, and Chinna Ponnu—whose approval and affection are key to uniting the family. The elder set of relatives seem to carry the weight of a long-standing rift, and their reconciliation becomes the family’s new mission.

A plan forms: the brothers are to marry the daughters of their aunts so that the families can be rejoined. Saravanan agrees to the plan, and the trio—Saravanan, Shakthivel, and Kumaran—disguise themselves to attend a temple function and end up kidnapping their cousins instead of the intended brides. In a twist, they discover that Periya Ponnu’s daughter is Maya, linking the romance back to the family’s renewed ties.

Periya Ponnu suspects that Pasupathy, the MLA who once served the family, ordered the kidnapping and decides to run against him in the next election. Pasupathy’s men are dispatched to kill the aunts, but the brothers intervene, disguised as police officers, and rescue them. Their uncles help facilitate the marriages, and the brothers steadily win the hearts of their prospective wives.

As the political battle intensifies, Saravanan lends his help to Periya Ponnu’s campaign, leveraging his knowledge of people and influence to bolster her standing. Yet just days before the election, the aunts uncover the truth that Aalavanthan is their estranged brother, and the revelation tears at the family’s trust. The brothers are arrested, their hopes dimmed as Aalavanthan experiences a heart attack.

Rajasekhar steps in to bail out the brothers and exposes Pasupathy’s dirty tricks. With the election looming, Pasupathy resorts to bribery and manipulation to sway voters, but Saravanan and Kumaran foil his schemes, giving Periya Ponnu a crucial edge.

Driven by desperation, Pasupathy arrives at the family home intent on killing Maya and taking her with him. Maya, however, escapes to elope with Saravanan, but he urges her to reconsider and return. In a brutal confrontation, Pasupathy reveals that he was the one who killed Aalavanthan’s father and framed Aalavanthan for it. He attacks Periya Ponnu just as Maya and Saravanan return.

Saravanan confronts Pasupathy and his son in a fierce showdown, but the real twist comes when Pasupathy goes to rally his men—only to find that they are, in fact, Saravanan’s loyal gang members waiting to defend the family. The clash ends with the family standing strong, their bonds restored.

In the end, the family reunites, and the three brothers celebrate their marriages to their respective cousins, sealing a long-awaited reconciliation that brings peace to their generations-old feud. The hill town tale closes on a note of forgiveness, kinship, and a renewed sense that love and loyalty can conquer old grievances.
