A Happening of Monumental Proportions

As Daniel, portrayed by Common, struggles to manage the chaos of Career Day at his daughter’s elementary school, he finds himself swept into a catastrophic series of events that will dramatically change his life. Following the revelation of his affair with his married assistant, Nadine (played by Jennifer Garner), his new boss promptly fires him, leaving him in shock and disarray.

In an unexpected twist, the introverted Darius, the son of Daniel’s former boss Bradley Whitford, develops a fascination with Patricia (played by Storm Reid), Daniel’s daughter. Eager to win her affection, Darius seeks advice from the quirky shop teacher John Cho and the unconventional music instructor Anders Holm.

Complicating matters further, the school’s principal Allison Janney and vice-principal Rob Riggle are desperately trying to keep the untimely death of their gardener under wraps from everyone involved—students, staff, and parents alike. The day unfolds like a surreal comedy, culminating in an explosive confrontation between Daniel and his ex-boss as they both attend Career Day, their argument spilling into the playground.

As emotions peak, the rooftop becomes an unlikely refuge for Mr. McRow (played by John Cho) and Darius, where they candidly discuss their own battles with feelings of isolation and dissatisfaction. Darius’s father’s struggles with creativity provide a poignant context as they witness the escalating drama below. In a surprising turn of events, Darius’s father accidentally falls off the roof into a heap of manure but emerges unhurt, adding to the absurdity of the day.

Meanwhile, Daniel musters the courage to confront Nadine’s husband, allowing him to find a semblance of closure.
