Computer programmer Leo Fang is passed over for a promotion, which he attributes to anti‑Chinese bias, and decides to quit his job. He brings his Chinese‑American wife and two teenage children to mainland China for a vacation with his relatives, the Chao family. The cultural differences between the generations and spouses spark a series of humorous misunderstandings and clashes as they navigate life in the motherland.
