During World War II in Romania, the suspicious death of a German soldier throws a village into turmoil. Facing the threat of retaliation and potential slaughter by the authorities, the villagers desperately search for the killer. Their plight becomes entangled with Ipu, a charismatic and eccentric local man portrayed by Gérard Depardieu, who finds himself caught in a dangerous web of deception and manipulation. The situation forces the community to examine their own morality and the darker side of human behavior as they struggle to survive.
