The story begins with the recovery of Susanna Anna-Marie Johannes' dead body from a house that has been burned down. The forensic pathologist Arun is assigned to verify if the remains are indeed Susanna's by conducting DNA profiling, setting the stage for the mystery. The case prompts a flashback that reveals her complex life and relationships.

The story is told through a flashback where Arun, a young forensic pathologist, recounts Susanna's life to his wife. Arun has secretly admired Susanna since childhood, and she had funded his education after firing him from his job as a stable-boy, illustrating his long-standing connection and unspoken love for her.

Susanna's first husband, Edwin, an army major who lost his leg in Operation Blue Star, is overbearing and jealous. He resents her fidelity, and their strained relationship culminates in Edwin's death during a panther hunting trip, where he falls into the path of a jaguar after an altercation. Susanna ends her first marriage amidst tension and heartbreak.

Susanna marries Jamshed Singh Rathod, who renames himself Jimmy Stetson, a talented singer turned rock star. His flaws include gluttony and addiction, which lead him to steal songs and indulge in drugs. Susanna attempts to save their marriage but ultimately ends it with a heroin overdose, marking her second husband's death.

In Kashmir, Susanna marries Wasiullah Khan, a poet with a dual nature—kind during the day but a sadist at night, representing wrath. Her friends advise her to leave him due to his abusive behavior, but she stays until he is buried in a snowy grave, ending their tumultuous relationship.

Susanna's fourth husband is Nicolai Vronsky, a Russian spy leading a double life. When she discovers his other wife and family, her fury drives her to kill him with her pet snakes, further reinforcing her pattern of eliminating flawed husbands.

Susanna marries police inspector Keemat Lal, who shields her from prosecution for previous murders in exchange for marriage. His flaw is lust, and his dependence on Viagra leads to his overdose after Susanna secretly slips a drug into his drink, ending his life.

Susanna marries Bengali doctor Modhusudhon Tarafdar, who is greedy and tries to poison her for inheritance. When she shoots him during a game of Russian roulette and gets her house set ablaze in a suicide attempt, her loyal maid Maggie Aunty dies trying to rescue her, cementing her pattern of tragic endings.

Arun discovers through forensic evidence that the body in the burned house is actually Maggie Aunty's, not Susanna's, and she is alive at this point. Susanna confesses to Arun her pattern of seeking love and her belief that her sins have condemned her, leading to her impending marriage and ultimate demise.

Susanna, in her final moments, envisions Jesus Christ as her seventh husband, symbolizing unconditional love and forgiveness. She dies peacefully, embracing the love she longed for, and Arun and his wife return to their life, mourning her tragic but complex journey.
