Eric LeMarque is introduced as an adrenaline junkie and former hockey player, having sustained multiple injuries throughout his career. However, his life spirals downward as he battles a meth addiction, and after a DUI incident, his mother Susan expresses her deep concern for his choices.

On February 6, 2004, against a backdrop of impending danger, Eric travels to the Sierra Mountains for a day of snowboarding. With a looming winter storm forecast, his recklessness becomes apparent as he chooses thrill-seeking over responsibility.
