The starship Avalon sets off on a monumental mission, carrying over 5,000 colonists and 238 crew members to the distant planet, Homestead II. This journey, designed to ensure humanity's survival, will last an unprecedented 120 years, during which all aboard will be in hibernation.

While navigating a perilous asteroid field, a piece of debris breaches the ship's energy shield, leading to a catastrophic malfunction. This unforeseen event causes the premature awakening of mechanical engineer Jim Preston, who finds himself isolated on the ship, waking up 90 years too early.

Jim Preston struggles with the weight of his solitude aboard the Avalon, realizing he is the only awake passenger with the hibernation pods of the other 5,000 still active.
